Starting wide receiver Vincent Terrell Jackson, who had his best season in 2009 with 68 catches, 1,168 yards and 9 TDs, is a San Diego Chargers football player accused of driving drunk for the second time in a little over two years as he pleaded guilty to a DUI charge from 2009. According to reports, Jackson, 25, was convicted of the same charges in October 2006, so this is his second strike. He was on probation at the time of his second arrest on Jan. 6, 2009.
Vincent Jackson’s Plea Guilty
Jackson also pleaded guilty to a 2009 DUI charge and was sentence to 4 days in jail and will be placed on probation for 5 years. Reports show that Vincent received the bare minimum sentence required for a second DUI offense in California which is what the city attorney’s office called the standard sentence for a DUI with one prior: five years probation with 96 hours in custody. In addition, Jackson will also have to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) class and pay a $2,408 fine, as well as attend a multiple conviction program. According to Jackson’s attorney, he received the standard sentence for someone with a prior DUI conviction.
Vincent Jackson’s Arrest
The morning of the Chargers’ 17-14 playoff loss to the New York Jets, a department spokesman said the officer stopped Jackson because his music was too loud. In that incident the officer cited Jackson for having expired vehicle tags and driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor under California law. Chargers player Vincent Jackson did not receive any jail time but was handcuffed for a short period of time and his car was impounded.
What Will Happen to Vincent Jackson Career?
Jackson has had a few run ins with the law and this incident is just another piece of news that he doesn’t want hanging over his shoulders. Anyway, once his 2009 DUI case is resolved, we’ll see what happens. The NFL doesn’t look too kindly on repeat screw ups, and even though the league’s procedure for suspending Jackson has not been initiated, Jackson may face suspension from a few games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Stay tuned to see how this all plays out for Jackson and his career. Because this is not his first DUI, Jackson will be required to spend four days in jail prior to his probation for five years.
