Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston charged with DWI

Posted on Feb 26, 2009

Rafer AlstonOctober 2008 brought Houston Rockets point guard Rafer Alston in the news but this time for all the wrong reason. Alston is this time charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Released on a $500 bond, Alston has been given a strict order by the court to stay away from drugs and alcohol otherwise his bail may be canceled. Good news for Alston is that his Canadian driving license is not suspended.

Past record:

The track record of Rafer Alston is quite bad to say the least. In 2007, he was charged with public intoxication and misdemeanor assault in Houston after a fight with a parking-lot attendant. Alston was also arrested in New York City after an alleged altercation in a pub. Because of lack of evidence in this case, charges were dropped. In the playing front, nine-year NBA veteran has performed quite well with an average of 13.1 points and 5.3 assists last season.

DWI Video:

I thought like sharing Rafer Alston’s arrest video with my blog visitors. Have a look at that, check his arguments with the the interrogation officer, Alston was handcuffed in the end.

Misdemeanor:

If convicted of DWI , Alston faces up to six months in jail and a fine of $2,000. Charge is a misdemeanor because it is the first DWI conviction for Alston. According to official sources, Alston was driving without headlights in the 3000 block of Washington early morning. Driving a 2008 Aston Martin, Alston is also accused of making an unlawful turn. Police officials are of the view that Alston had bloodshot eyes and his breath smelled of alcohol. Alston was unsteady on his feet and to balance himself he had to grab his car. Police official at duty has termed Alston as being combative and belligerent.

This incident once again shows the irresponsible attitudes of our celebrities. Rafer Alston is making millions a year playing for a high-profile NBA team and still doing such silly things. I hope, Alston now realize that not everyone gets such a wonderful life and opportunity that he has got. Instead of being charged for DWI, Alston should act in such a way that youngsters can treat him as a role model.

The Result:

Surprise verdict: He was found not guilty..!!
