Posted on Jun 09, 2011

When we read or hear about the innumerable deaths due to drunk driving, we feel sorry for the victims who had to face the misery due to the irresponsibility of those who operate the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. At times, it can wipe a whole family due to the negligence of a few who walk away without any penalty or even a small scratch. There should be strict consequences for DWI cases.

Heart to Heart Confessions of a Drunk Driver

Confessions of a Drunk DriverAlcohol abuse is a dangerous offense and those who drunk driving can not only be dangerous to them but can kill others as well. These people usually are not dangerous but when drunk, can cause a lot of problems. I was an alcoholic for a long period of time and during this time I used to drive. I have had a few shameful experiences as a drunk driver which I would like to share with you all so that you do not repeat them. There are few questions that I would like to answer for the benefit of everybody and which can give an insight what was you feel when you have been committed the crime of drunk driving repeatedly.

  • Why did you think of driving while being drunk and cause danger to others around you as well as people on the road?

I always felt that it was dangerous to drive while being drunk when I was sober. However, when I was drunk I did operate my motor vehicle many times in order to reach a destination within a specific period of time. I felt that I should not be at the mercy of others when I was drunk and be independent and drive my vehicle. I always felt that I was completely in control of myself when drunk whereas in realty I needed assistance. I had control of my reasoning ability and was not ready to follow instructions.

  • How many DWI cases and their consequences have you faced during your drunken driving period?

During the years when I was involved in alcohol abuse, I had caused serious injury to a person on the road. This led to a DWI case and I had to face serious penalties as I was prosecuted for drunk driving and my BAC was over 0.08%. Luckily the injury was not fatal but I have to face some penalties. The penalties included jail time along with fine and license suspension which affected my life completely and it took me a long time to get back to normal. I had to face criminal charges which affected my job prospects as well.

This made me realize that so many tragedies can be averted if we avoid drunk driving and are careful that we do not operate a vehicle while being drunk.
