Griffon football player called before the court for DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) charges. Missouri Western football player, Benjamin Pister was cited on Sept. 19 for driving under the influence (DUI). Pister, a defensive lineman for Missouri Western State University, will be arraigned on Nov. 9 after failing to drive on the right side of the road. During the same incident, he was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Benjamin Pister DWI Offense

The citation occurred in Country Club Village where Pister was operating a motor vehicle under the influence and without car insurance. Pister was also arrested on Jan. 29 of last year for second-degree burglary and third-degree assault charges. According to reports, this arrest was due to a fight between a football and a baseball team. According to the complaints by the baseball team, a group of Western football players attacked them. This incident led to Pister’s arrest, where he was ordered by a municipal judge to pay $200 in fines.

Head Coach Jerry Partridge Comments on Pister’s Citation

Pister’s coach, Jerry Partridge declined to comment on his DUI citation. He just said, “Anything that happens with our kids is going to be handled in house, and I’m not going to comment on it in public,” said Jerry Partridge. So there you have it! Yet another coach refuses to talk about the inappropriate behavior displayed by his players. So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. It is typical for coaches to have their own in-house policy for incidents like this, so hopefully it’s more than just a slap on the wrist for Pister.

Missouri Western State University’s DWI Laws

MWSU’s Athletics Department Drug and Alcohol Policy states that their athletes go through alcohol and drug abuse awareness training. The policy also states that the University will make available a training program to educate the players about the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol. It seems that Missouri Western State University (MWSU) prides itself on promoting strict rules to deter its student-participants from abusing these dangerous substances.

What do you make of the whole incident? Do you think laws got strict for him because of his celebrity status or he got advantage of being a celebrity?

Everyone knows celebrities love to party. They love to be seen, they love the spotlight, and what is a party without mood altering substances? Alcohol just seems to go with the atmosphere when it comes to celebrity parties and which celebrity does not like to be seen behind the wheel of a fancy automobile? Put these ingredients together and you have celebrity DWI!

Celebrity DWI Arrest in the News

Celebrity DWI arrest are all over the news these days and the numbers seem to be growing. Many notable celebrities, political figures, and athletes are making the news by getting behind the wheel after drinking heavily. Some of the stories are just pathetic and make you giggle but it also makes you wander; what is leading to all these celebrity DWIs?

Cynics View of What Leads to Celebrity DWI

Some have a cynical view that these celebrities are just trying to get into the news, or they are trying to get extra publicity and save their sagging careers, but is this really the case?

Are Celebrities Aware of the Risks of Drunk Driving?

Could it be that some celebrities just do not care? They could care less about the deaths and injuries that drunk drivers cause. They are too caught up in their own lives and careers and not worried about the consequences of drunk driving on the peasants that share the roads with them. Are they even aware of the risks?

Celebrities are Insulated from the Consequences Of Drunk Driving

Many are not afraid of the potential penalties like regular folks are. Have you ever heard of an actor or actresses lose a role because they had a DUI of their record? How about a singer that did not get a contract because they plowed into the back of someone’s car and killed the poor person in the road? It just does not happen. They are insulated by their agents, lawyers, managers and handlers.

Celebrities Choosing to Drink and Drive

Many do choose to drink and drive because they have done it plenty of times before and never had a problem. They just do not feel the risk like Joe Blow from the factory that pounded down to many suds and finds himself in the holding tank and he cannot make bail or afford a big time lawyer to make it all go away. Celebrities may be willing to take the risk because they don’t consider drunk driving a threat to others!

Drunk driving is becoming a growing menace with more number of people getting involved in this heinous act. The specific criminal offense known as driving under the influence or DUI caused more than 17,941 deaths during 2006 in the United States according to the estimates of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), indicating over 40% of total traffic deaths in the US.

Celebrity DUI

Celebrity DUI is another issue which has been affecting the country. They are notorious for various things and DUI or driving under the influence is one of the most common criminal offenses committed by them. Some of the celebrity DUI incidents have been fatal and become very popular. This has tarnished their public image and has also convicted them for DUI offense with serious consequences.

One the most damaging DUI cases, caused by a celebrity, is that of Mel Gibson’s. He was busted on Pacific Coast Highway of Malibu when he was driving 87 miles an hour with a bottle of tequila. This affected his reputation badly. The list of other famous celebrities busted for alcohol abuse and drunk driving in the past year are:

Nicole Richie

Lindsay Lohan

Rapper/actress Eve

American Pie movie star Chris Klein

‘Dancing with the Stars Winner’ and Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward Busted for DUI

Another notorious DUI case has been that of Dancing with the Stars and Pittsburgh Steelers MVP champ Hines Ward; he was busted for DUI recently. Hines Ward is a talented athlete known for his smile, and effortless charm has been vowing his fans but this Pittsburgh Steelers charm was arrested for this heinous crime. Earlier he was arrested in Los Angeles while filming Dancing with the Stars but was released when he won the case. However, this time he was arrested in Georgia on DUI charges on July 10, 2011. This Steelers receiver and Super Bowl MVP champ has been one of the well-respected players in the NFL, but a drunk-driving charge has affected his image badly. He was held on $1,000 bond but later released on bail.

Hines Ward, 35, has played 13 years with the Steelers, winning two championships and was named Super Bowl MVP after the Steelers’ 2006 title game victory over the Seattle Seahawks. His team lost the Super Bowl to the Green Bay Packers this past February. However, this was not the end of his career. He and his dance partner Kym Johnson won “Dancing with the Stars” in March this year.

DUI offense by celebrities give them the negative publicity, and its most harmful effect is that the fans of these celebrities may also try drunk driving because people tend to copy the celebrities they like.

A word of caution for celebrities…..next time be sure what you are putting at stake!
