Numerous organizations advocate against drunk driving in America. They all have the same aim, that is, they want to prevent or reduce drinking and driving and other alcohol-related auto accidents. Nearly 35 percent of people in the U.S. are involved in drunk driving related collisions during a lifetime. Last decade, in one year alone the amount of people that expired in auto accidents, where drinking was a factor, was over 40 percent of all vehicle related deaths. During the same time, almost 2,000,000 people were apprehended because of DUI.

M.A.D.D. — The Top Organization against Drunk Driving

In all this, one advocacy organization stands far above the rest. This group is Mothers Against Drunk Driving or M.A.D.D. This is a nonprofit association that calls Irving, Texas, its home and has branched out internationally. This alliance began in the early 80s with lofty goals like:

Stopping drinking and driving

Supporting victims of DUI offenses

Preventing teenage drinking

M.A.D.D.’s Success Story

Throughout the years, this group has extended its efforts significantly, particularly its aim to prevent teenage drinking. From the time it began, M.A.D.D. has assisted in the establishment of countless anti-drinking and driving regulations and designated drivers are common all over the nation because of M.A.D.D.

M.A.D.D. At Drunk Driving

M.A.D.D. educates people on the subject of drinking and driving. They also give aid and advocate for those affected by DUI. The organization robustly promoted lowering the illegal blood alcohol content level to .08 percent for the entire nation. It also advocates:

Utilizing compulsory jail sentences

Ignition interlock devices (I.D.D.)

License suspension for multiple offenses

S.A.D.D.. an Organization That Takes On DUI

The next top organization that crusades against DUI in young people is the group known as Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD). This association is a youth oriented instructional program, which has the goal of thwarting alcohol utilization and abuse in America. The objective is to provide teenagers the finest deterrence and intercession means feasible so that they will be capable of shrewdly dealing with ordinary matters, like:

Underage drinking

Drug habits

Impaired driving

With over 9500subdivisions in American schools and colleges, S.A.D.D. gets an early start on prevention. This group began by helping teenagers say no to drunk driving, however they have added other activities to their organizations goals. Now they also work with issues like youth violence, depression, and suicide.

Doctors for Designated Drivers: A Top Organization against DUI

Next on the list of do-gooders is Doctors for Designated Drivers (DFDD). The mission of these professionals is to boost the protection of motorists, passengers, and pedestrians by encouraging the use of designated drivers. This group is a symbol of the healthcare industry in the movement to thwart deaths and injuries connected to DUI.

This is just a small list of the top organizations against drunk driving. These organizations, along with others have played a commendable role in reducing the number of deaths due to DUI all over America.

A huge number of motor vehicle accidents and fatalities usually happen during the Super Bowl weekend due to drunk driving. This is one of America’s favorite pastimes and fans can get out of control when their favorite team wins. To celebrate this event, fans drink alcohol and often put themselves at risk for drunk driving incidents and other drunk driving related risks, especially if they do not drink responsibly and plan ahead to have a designated driver to take them home.

Preventing Drunk Driving Before and After the Game

This year Super Bowl alcohol related arrests showed a significant increase. DWI (Driving while intoxicated) charges went up from previous years. Law enforcement officers were expecting to see more DWI offenders during and after the Super Bowl game, so checkpoints were set up to prevent fans from drinking and driving. Most states step up enforcement against impaired driving and increased their DUI checkpoints and patrols to deter fans from drinking and driving.

NFL Joined Hands with MADD to Help Fight Drunk Driving

DUI arrests among NFL players and fans is nothing new, so MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) joined partnership with the NFL in an attempt to fight drunk driving among both NFL players and fans.

Teenage Alcohol Abuse and DUI

Teenage drunk driving and binge drinking is also a major problem. Alcohol advertisements play a major role in teenage drinking and alcohol abuse. Reports also showed that DUI and alcohol related incidents among teenagers is also on the rise.

Harms of Driving While Intoxicated

Slower reaction time

Alertness impaired

Blurred Vision

Feeling of Overconfidence

and even more …

DUI Campaign Ongoing

According to reports, motor vehicle crashes due to alcohol consumption are the leading cause of death in the United States. Law enforcement agencies have been issuing stiffer penalties to drunk driving violators in the hope that this will deter people from driving while intoxicated. They also have alcohol advertisements, checkpoints and other DUI campaign to deter drunk driving. But, despite all their efforts, DUI is still a big problem in the United States.

Super Bowl is one of American’s favorite pastimes. It is also an event where alcohol is consumed and an increase in alcohol related incidents occur. A few of Hollywood celebrities played the most important position in the NFL this year. Celebs like Adam Sandler, Hugh Jackman, and Robin Leach helped MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) promoted the importance of assigning a designated driver instead of driving while intoxicated.

Super Bowl DUI Stats

According to MADD, Super Bowl crashed due to drunk driving is the second highest behind New Year’s Day. Their report shows that in 2009, drunk driving crashed on Super Bowl Sunday and the morning after the Super Bowl Game killed 65 people.

About MADD

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1980. MADD is committed to eliminate drunk driving by educating the public about its dangers and risks involved in drinking and driving. They also help victims and their families affected by crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and ongoing campaigns to increase public awareness of the problem of drinking and drugged driving. MADD also recently announced their partnership with the NFL in an attempt to fight drunk driving among both NFL players and their fans.

Super Bowl and Part Tip Ideas Provided by MADD

MADD believes the party hosts should take responsibility for their guests and keep them safe by making sure they drink responsibly and have a safe way home if they have had too much to drink.

Coffee won’t make alcohol users sober; only time will

Someone’s outer appearance can be deceiving. If the person had been drinking do not ride home with them, take a designated driver instead.

Alcohol levels are the same for beer, wine and liquor so drink responsibly.

Mixing drinks with fruit juice and other mixers can increase the intake of alcohol.

Throw parties at hotels so people won’t drive home while under the influence.

Hire a pick-up service to take party goers home safely.

Promote responsible drinking on invitations for parties.

Do not promote alcohol consumption.

Visit MADD website for more information about safe party guide and social responsibility.

The NFL also encouraged fans to participate in designated driver programs supported at every NFL stadium nationwide.
