The star player and the co captain of the Honeoye Basketball Team suffered the maximum head injuries as he did not wear his seat belt, when the car slammed against a tree. He was accompanied by his girl friend and the leader of the cheerleading squad Kelly Hoertz who sustained a skull fracture and Dylan Jobson another capable player of the Honeoye Basketball Team, who is the alleged drunken driver who crashed the car against a tree, and luckily escaped with minor injuries.

Austin’s family is in a deep state of shock, and the only thing that kept them going was the prayers offered by all their son’s fellow members and friends. They exchanged a few words with News 10 NBC in an exclusive interview where they thanked everyone for their prayers, which they believe is helping their son to recover from the injury.

The fate of a 17 year old had changed in a day and the reason is none other than Driving While Intoxicated. Their car lost control during their sunset drive near Candice, close to Jobson’s house.

Support from Honeoye Community

Austin’s mother Cathy White – Barber was stated that she was just beside her son’s bed side and hoping that he will be fine, while his father Roy told spokesperson that it was amazing to find his community offering group prayers and was sure that his son will gain strength and support to fight back the bad luck. Is Drinking During Pregnancy Harmful? A Myth or Fact

Posted on Apr 09, 2009

Is Drinking During Pregnancy Harmful?

Researches show that occasional drinking during pregnancy really doesn’t affect the normal pregnancy cycle nor does it result in premature births. Here occasional drinking is defined as women consuming one or two drinks per day. Even if nothing is reported against light or moderate drinking during pregnancy medically the best practice will be to abstain from drinking during pregnancy.

Over the decades number of articles has been published about the impact of drinking during pregnancy. Actually speaking we must by now be in a position to understand the impact of it and provide conclusive proof against drinking whether occasional or otherwise during pregnancy. The situation is a little different in the sense that, inspite of all this, till date there are no medically proven evidences which says occasional drinking during pregnancy has harmful impact over the fetus during pregnancy.

Again the impact of drinking could significantly vary depending upon what is the measure of occasional and light drinking, as it differs from person to person.

Americans and their Alcoholic History

Drinking was a norm in early American days. Everyone drank, our fore fathers and mothers drank more alcohol than what we do. In the early 1800’s women drinkers where around 100,000, drinking almost 1/3rd of national liquor. It is indeed hard to believe the point that all of us in some way have been exposed to alcohol and its harmful effects but still not in a position to provide evidence relating to its impact.

Have concern for your child – Abstain from Drinking during Pregnancy

Of course as researches one intends to collect information from concerned individuals about their drinking habits and the impact they have faced owing to alcohol consumption. It is important to remember that people who consume alcohol especially in very high quantities often tend to lie about their consumption.

The measure of alcohol consumption varies from person to person and from one research article to another. While some of them consider drinking twice a day light and occasional, you will have someone else defining 3 or 4 drinks a day to be occasional drinking habit.

If you are someone who will go by such articles, beware!! Consumption of alcohol results in your fetus encountering birth defects. Of course alcohol is just one of the many possible risk factors. There are a number of risk factors such as smoking, maternal illness, pregnancy complications, past health history, drugs and environment pollution that could very well result in a health issue.

It is better to abstain than to risk your child’s life and future. Heavy drinkers put their children to various physical and mental deformities which is far more dangerous than child abuse.

Probable Health Issues – Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy

Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is a sure shot risk. Though there are no evidences to prove the same considering the fact that the substance is the cause for all birth defects there is no point in risking one’s life and that of a child. Considering the issue pertaining to drinking during pregnancy cases, given below are the possible health hazards one might possibly face.

  • Spontaneous abortion among women who take at least 1 or 2 drinks a day.
  • Frequent drinks result in lower birth weight of the new born.
  • Possible brain damage among children whose mother is alcohol dependent woman.
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) – A serious health problem where the child is subject to various birth defects as a result of alcohol consumption by his/her mother. Posted on Apr 06, 2009

A few days back there was an interesting article in MSN’s health website, ‘ninemsn’, under the category women’s health about a new trend among youngsters, especially women, where they caught in two extremes, complete control and lack of control. Such an extreme condition is referred to as ‘Drunkorexia’. It is a non medical term used to describe the pathetic state of young women who in the illusion to say fit and to drink as well, cut down drastically on their food intake and consume alcohol in its place, just to ensure, that they do not shoot out on their daily calorie intake and at the same enjoy the relaxation and intoxication caused by alcohol.

Drunkorexia

What is Drunkorexia?

Drunkorexia is a non-medical term gaining popularity among youngsters who want to loose weight and party without gaining extra weight. It is a weird attitude to stay fit, where actually you loose your health, under the pretext of staying slim. Drunkorexia is in short reducing or restricting the calorie intake by eating less in order to drink more. Youngster’s, especially women willingly starve all day long and break their fast with first sip of alcohol that takes them into a different world of losing one’s own self under intoxication and experience freedom at the cost of their health.

Side Effects of Drunkorexia – Self Destruction

The dangers caused by the this new attitude towards self destruction is as follows

  • Lack of balanced diet, where alcohol which has zero nutritional value is consumed in place of a healthy meal.
  • State of intoxication exposes the individual to both physical and sexual assault.
  • Irrational dependence on alcohol as the only source of relaxation, leads to addiction.
  • Signs of early aging
  • Deceiving ones own self leading to emotional disturbances

What has driven youngsters to Drunkorexia?

Constant exposure to unrealistic views about health and fitness is the critical reason behind this kind of a pathetic state of mind. They fail to understand the difference between staying slim and staying fit. A slim body alone is not an example of fitness. It is rather a vague combination of obsession to stay slim and satisfy ones addiction towards alcohol.

How to overcome Drunkorexia?

Drunkorexia is unhealthy state of mind and body. A negative mind and unrealistic inhibitions are the reasons behind this self devastating attitude. It is important to feel good and learn to live for ones own self than for others. It is good to practice a positive thinking everyday. Learn to have fun and add some humor to your life. Learn to share with others your concerns and ensure that you do not allow inhibitions rule your mind.
